What is School in the Cloud?

The School in the cloud is an initiative inspired by Mr. Sugata Mitra, a professor of Educational Technology. This helps them in self-organized learning with digital technology. These First-generation learners require lots more visual stimuli hence, the school in the cloud will ease their learning. A Self-Organized Learning Environment, or SOLE, can exist anywhere there are computers, Internet connections, and students who are ready to learn. Within a SOLE, students are given the freedom to learn collaboratively using the internet.

There are no facilities for the latest technology in the homes of these children. The School in the cloud is needed for such children. So, Mahesh Foundation had planned to set up a lab of school in the cloud that impacts the learning of children who lack such privileges at home.
Mahesh Foundation is always keen to experiment with innovative things for the children if they can benefit them in learning. We have space for setting up a lab for the children’s learning but some other facilities are needed in the interior of the lab. The infrastructure such as computers for digital learning, furniture, and other equipment for the lab.

Beneficiaries of this lab are HIV infected children who are sheltered at Mahesh Foundation’s care home, slum children who are getting the education at school of Mahesh foundation, and other community underprivileged children who study in the Government schools but lack such privileges at their schools as well as homes.

Our Challenges

E-Learning is the need of the hour in the modern era but it is not accessible to all in developing countries like India. Many children don’t have access to digital technology in their houses as well as in government schools. Moving from a conventional setting to online education in a virtual classroom may prove to be difficult for some students; especially for those with learning disabilities who benefit greatly from human interaction with their instructors.

There are no facilities for the latest technology in the homes of these children. Many hurdles like frequent power cuts, improper Internet connectivity, Hardware unavailability and many more. Children need to cope with latest generation Technology.

Mahesh Foundation set up a lab in the premises and that is easily accessible to the children.

The lab is equipped with the latest computer hardware and software, furniture, and other equipment for the lab. Children themselves visit the lab to explore the things that they are interested in. Children from local government schools have been benefiting from this program.

School in the Cloud is an innovative way of learning which helps students in SELF ORGANIZED LEARNING. School in the Cloud lab was established with an intent to make children self-reliant in learning. This helps the HIV-infected children who have been provided shelter at Mahesh Foundation, slum children who are learning in Utkarsha Learning Center and 500-600 children to explore new things by themselves. Using technology children can communicate with other communities these resources used well to learn new things.
