About Selco Foundation

Sustainable energy practitioners have long noticed energy access affects rural and urban populations’ livelihood, generation capacity, education attendance, health outcomes and overall quality of life. In response, SELCO India established SELCO Foundation charitable trust. It envisions a socially sustainable society: which seeks to create avenues for asset building, enhancement in quality of life and wealth creation that will uplift deprived sections of society through sustainable development solutions.

Our Challenges

There are 200+ families dwelling in slums and all of them are migrants who lives in huts. This community is one of the neglected communities and didn't have proper resources such as sustainable energy, clean drinking water, infrastructure and more. Our program Aadhar Village was started in 2015 to ensure these facilities and uplift the slum dwellers. But there was a need of supporter for this bigger project.

With their support, provided sustainable solar energy to these people and also restructured their huts making them sustaineble. More than 200 families, 1500+ people were benefitted from this initiative.

Our Challenges

Mahesh Foundation had a dream of building an independant school and a safe care home for medically challenged and underprivileged children. This dream came true in 2019 where Mahesh Foundation constructed a building in Kanabargi, Belagavi. This has been benefiting thousands of children every day. But after the construction of the building, there arised a challenge of energy sources as we had to depend upon State Board for the electricity. Also, it would have been a financial burden as 5 storey building needs to be supplied with electricity.

Our Solution

Our program partners Selco Foundation came forward to support us with establishment of 20 KVA Solar Power Plant at Mahesh Foundation premises. Through this support thousands of children are benefitting in the school, care home and under our community program. This also made Mahesh Foundation self-sustained and independant from State Electricity Board.
